Galveston has a strong creative side, and there are plenty of ways for kids to be part of it. This section can introduce some of the places where Island kids can paint, create, learn and get a little messy.

A hands-on creative stop where kids can choose pottery pieces and turn them into something completely their own. It’s an easy activity for an afternoon, birthday outing or rainy Island Day, and parents might end up painting something too.

Much more than a place to check out books, Rosenberg Library is a fantastic resource for Island families. Children’s programming, story times, activities, summer programs and special events make the library one of those places families can return to throughout every stage of childhood.

Building a sandcastle is one thing; learning how the incredible Galveston sand sculptures are actually created is another. Family sandcastle lessons turn a regular beach day into a hands-on experience, teaching kids the techniques behind carving, shaping and building something much more impressive than the usual bucket-and-shovel castle.
🚲 Seawall Bike Rides
Some of the best family activities are also the simplest. Bikes, scooters and cruisers along the Seawall, especially when the weather cools down or the sun starts setting, are an easy way to get outside together with miles of Gulf views along the way.

From piers and jetties to bayside spots, fishing is woven into Island life. It’s something kids can learn young and continue doing for years, whether the goal is actually catching dinner or just spending a quiet morning by the water.

Learning to surf is one of those activities that makes growing up on Galveston Island a little different. Local instructors offer beginner-friendly lessons where kids can learn the basics of paddling, standing up, wave safety and getting comfortable in the Gulf.

Galveston Island Beach Patrol’s Junior Lifeguard program takes advantage of having the beach right in our backyard. Kids build swimming and fitness skills while learning about water safety, rescue techniques and the Gulf environment.
