Ball High School has been part of Galveston’s educational history for generations and is recognized as the oldest public high school in Texas. Its new campus opened in 2026, bringing expanded opportunities in academics, technology, career training, fine arts, and athletics. Students can pursue AP and dual-credit courses, advanced health sciences, engineering, business, and a variety of Career & Technical Education pathways, including programs developed in partnership with Galveston College and UTMB.

Menard Park and the McGuire-Dent Recreation Center add even more options with basketball, tennis, a skatepark, outdoor recreation, and community activities, all just steps from the Seawall.

Rosenberg Library is much more than a place to check out books. Its Children's Department offers scheduled and drop-in programs, while past programming has included chess, STEM activities, microscopes, LEGO building, coding, crafts, and family events.

You can also mention GISD's own after-school programs. For 2026–27, the district's TOR Kids/Prep and ACE programs provide after-school opportunities across multiple campuses, with activities that can include homework help, tutoring, gardening, enrichment, and physical activities.
